It would seem to work fine since I can detach it for use in prone and sitting positions, then quickly reattach it for offhand. #3 - I can attach my Turner sling to the UBR QD point. Some posts have noted folks using non-A1/A2 grips and enlarged trigger guards without any RO issues. Considering all the stuff that can be done now-a-days does anyone anticipate the regs changing to allow the use of a Magpul MIAD grip and enlarged trigger guard? #2 - I see the 2018 regs still specify using an A1 or A2 grip.
#1 - Is anyone using a light-weight BCG with a heavy buffer? I have a VDI that I've used with a heavy buffer and it works well, as well as being smoother than the older traditional BCG in the RRA. I've decided to go the optics route and will get a WOA upper sans front sight tower, and save the RRA carry handle to switch back to if I want to shoot a iron sight match. The regs seem to be OK with installing extended mag releases also since there are no mention of not using them. I put a Gen 1 UBR and Magpul BAD on as well as a Wilson M2 trigger vs. I dug the old RRA out and looked into my spare parts box and started making a few changes. I was surprised to see that adjustable stocks and optics were OK now, as well as other things that were no-go back in the day. Reading the threads here have helped a lot as well as downloading the 2018 Regs. While I have frequented the M1 and other forums up higher up so I looked here and saw this board. I knew the AR has dominated matches since my college days, and there have been some recent changes. In my final duty area I have a good range (1000 & 600 yds) with regular matches so I decided to refamiliarize myself with the AR Service Rifle world. I eventually made it to an assignment with a club 70 miles away that did have M1 Garand matches so I got back into it, but not AR Service Rifles. I did pick up a RRA NM carry handle upper and built it up with a lower in hopes of getting back into Service Rifle when I moved to an area with a club nearby but never shot it since I got into other AR configurations, so the RRA NM went into the back of the safe. Of course back then I caught ALOT of flack from the M1 and M1A guys, and learned some reloading lessons with the HBAR.Īfter graduation my career took me to locations quite a ways from any organized matches so my Service Rifle shooting went away. My last two years I got a Colt HBAR and started using it. 22 3/4-position match rifles, then in the spring we went outdoors for Service Rifle with the teams' M1 Garands.
Back in the day (80s) when I was in college I was on the rifle team where we shot indoor.
